Grip and Foot work Badminton Lesson plan : Dr mazin hadi kazer altaie

Grip: There are 2 types of grips. 1. The standard forehand grip: You hold the handle as if you were shaking someone s hand. Grip the handle with the middle, ring and small fingers, while the index finger and the thumb are used to control the racquet. 2. Backhand grip: similar to the forehand grip, however the hand is rotated slightly to the left and the thumb is placed flat against the side for additional power.
Teaching cues:

1. hand, wrist and arm relaxed
2. Fingers tight
3. Grip racquet in fingers not in palm of hand.
Warm up: Once the grip has been taught, the students will grip the racquet and rotate the wrist, to warm it up. 2 minutes.
Activity 1: To properly execute the grip, the students have to practice. This activity consists of the students gripping their racquet while continually hitting the shuttlecock up in the air with their racquets. Then after a while of practice, I will tune it into a small competition of who can get the most hits in one minute. 5 minutes.
Activity 2: Students will practice hitting the shuttle over the net standing on the short service line. The students will have ten hits for each grip. First they will hit 5 using the forehand grip, then the next 5 using the backhand grip, and then repeat. As the teacher is making sure the student are using proper grips. 7 minutes
Next I will teach the class proper foot work and proper positioning on the court. 8 minutes.
Emphasize: ready position, feet shoulder width apart with knees slightly bent and weight on the balls of your feet. You want to stand midway between the doubles long and the short service lines. The racquet hand should be held at about shoulder height, and away from the body.
Steps: When stepping sideways, you want to spring sideways and shuffle step to the shuttle. When you want to go towards the right baseline, you should drop step and shuffle, and for the left basline you should drop step with left foot and crossover with right turning with back to the net.
Activity 3: With a partner, practice proper foot work, with the partner using proper gripping to hit you the ball. The partner who is hitting, will make sure to hit to different sides of the court, so the partner practicing foot work will be able to execute every move. 7 minutes.
Activity 4 (final): To wrap everything up you want to have the students find a partner and a spot on the court, where they will rally back and forth, practicing both grip and footwork. This is where the teacher will walk around and give teaching cues, and encourage the students to try their best, and to help encourage each other
